BJP’s Nayab Singh Saini has replaced Manohar Lal Khattar as the new Chief Minister of Haryana, having taken his oath in the presence of Governor Bandaru Dattatreya in Chandigarh on Tuesday. Following the oath ceremony, Saini submitted a letter of support from 48 MLAs to the Governor, urging him to convene an assembly session on Wednesday for a floor test.
This development follows Khattar’s resignation due to a disagreement over seat-sharing between the BJP and its alliance partner, the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Khattar’s Cabinet ministers also tendered their resignations to Governor Bandaru Dattatreya on Tuesday.
The rift between the BJP and the JJP over seat allocation for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections has led to the dissolution of the government. Reports suggest that a new cabinet will likely be sworn in at the governor’s residence later in the day, with the BJP intending to submit a letter of support, backed by five Independent MLAs, to facilitate Khattar’s reappointment as Chief Minister. It is expected that some Independent MLAs will be offered positions in the Haryana Cabinet. Stay updated for live news on the Haryana CM situation.
